The Ásbrú area of ​​Reykjanes served as the home of US Army base employees and their families until 2006. Today there are apartments for students and start-up companies. The residential areas are rather unattractive. Very large undefined areas are located between the existing buildings. The two main areas are not very well connected.
The main goals of the modified Ásbrú are:
the creation of community-building and sustainable development
the strengthening of the central area and the linking of both areas
the increase in the range of different types of housing to give space to all age groups
the activation of outdoor space and the formation of public and private gardens
strengthening pedestrian and bicycle lane connections
the upgrading of the street space with the help of planting and outdoor furniture
the densification of small-scale development to create more protected outdoor areas and to be able to offer other forms of housing
