Hotel Egilsen

Refurbishment

Egilsen’s House, the city of Stykkishólmur's second oldest building, dates back to 1867 and is listed as a heritage building. The façade of this 3-storey wooden house is protected and one of its special features is the roof, a so-called Mansard-roof. Using every corner, the house was converted into a 10 room hotel, with a lobby and a lounge. When changing the building into a Boutique hotel, keeping the characteristics of the house, as well as creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere, was one of the guidelines in the design. The main goal was to create a warm and friendly athmosphere without losing the building’s historical roots. The relatively small building seems bigger once inside and very comfortable. The sensible interaction between old and new appears in unique spaces and brings the almost 150 year old building to the presence.
